IPE is a visual vector editor. It is useful for creating precise, scalable and easy to integrate figures for papers, presentations, sketches, or for creating full presentations or posters. It is compatible with LaTeX. It can be stored as .ipe or as .pdf, and can be exported to .svg and .png if needed.

This page contains some tips on How to get started with IPE, as well as Resources from other people / the web, some very useful Shortcuts, and a list of Tipps (e.g. how to include ipe figures).

How to get started

  1. Download on the IPE homepage: https://ipe.otfried.org/.
  2. IPE does not have to be installed. Just start the .exe. Or you can try it on the IPE homepage: https://ipe-web.otfried.org/
  3. In order to process LaTeX commands, you can either enable the online compilation in IPE or you will need https://www.latex-project.org/ on your computer (faster).

If you want to know more, have a look at this ipe-wiki (https://github.com/otfried/ipe-wiki/wiki)!

Enhancing IPE

Just as LaTeX, IPE is a very adjustable tool. There are multiple ways to adjust the tools available in IPE, the colors, the background, the shapes; whatever you can think of.

Presenting IPE

If you saved your IPE presentaion as a pdf, each view of each page will be stored as an individual page in the pdf. You can present it using your favorite pdf viewer.
